Should Designers hide their Identity?
So you have a clothing line and most brands have an “About” page in-regards to the designer and or what the brand is about. Often times the “About” page gives information that draws a connection to potential customers which leads to sales. If you are selling something and there’s a story or an inspiration that lead to the development of the product it’s always a good idea to share that. Especially with emerging brands that are building awareness sometimes more is better. Whatever your selling it’s not for everyone and everyone will not purchase. But there’s a customer for just about everything, if you’re hiding your identity to generate sales, you could be loosing sales on the flip-side because people don’t know who you are. If you are generating sales now and someone is disinterested due to your identity your sales will probably decline as they won’t make future purchase due to a disconnect. You should always stand behind your brand and share your story as customers buy into stories. Never be embarrassed or hide behind your brand because eventually your identity will be revealed and you don’t want to send a message of being fraudulent or dishonest. Don’t mislead customers by being from one race and post models that portray another race to mislead them of your true identity.
Quick Q&A is simply a guide, ultimately you must make the decisions that is right for your brand as each brand is different and have their own journey.
